It's always great to see your efforts "out there"

Back in the summer we provided a note-taker for a conference held by KAFEC (http://www.kafec.org.uk/) and held on the campus of the Universities at Medway in Chatham Maritime.

There were seven speakers, a workshop session and plenary to capture and the information came thick and fast.  We worked hard to capture the information accurately and present it in a coherent and digestible way as a reference for both attendees and those who missed the event.

It's hard not to feel the smallest twinkle of pleasure when you see that your efforts have finally flown the nest and are "out there" for all to see.

Optimising Your Office Space

Research published by AWA reveals some interesting usage statistics about office space, indicating that, in some cases, accommodation costs can be 50% higher than needed because we're intellectually wedded to the idea of going to work and sitting at "my desk".

It's a sobering thought.

When you consider that workers can be away from their desks for much of the time at meetings, visiting clients, on holiday or sick leave, it's not difficult to understand how some organisations achieve, according to AWA, a mere 50% occupancy rate.

As a Virtual Assistance Service, we understand that working with virtual colleagues can present new challenges, however improvements in IT and communications technologies allow for free tele-conferencing, online meetings, document sharing in ways that were unimaginable for most businesses just a decade ago.

I'm probably what you'd describe as an "early adopter" when it comes to IT.  In fact, some have even said "geek" which I think is a little harsh.  But for a long time now I've been convinced that the advantages of virtual working are not just about skipping the commute and wearing comfy clothes.  Organisations benefit from a larger workforce for no extra outlay in terms of office space and equipment while bringing on board skilled talent with specific expertise to get the job done.

Simple.

New Look

Rather than commenting on the unseasonably cold weather, I thought I would mention that we have a new look courtesy of the good people of Printshop.  We've gone all sleek and clean in appearance now - much how I hope I will be looking in person too if my new exercise regime ever pays dividends.

I'm so delighted to have some new business stationery and a new logo (that will be uploaded here soon).  It's so important to convey a professional image in correspondence and face-to-face contact, especially when we take so much care on behalf of our clients.  Until now it's been a classic case of "cobblers going without shoes".

I've just come back from collecting a couple of boxes of business cards and letterheadings that have filled me with enthusiasm, despite, even, the layer of snow accumulating outside.  Damn! I said I wouldn't mention the weather.
